Uknighted for a Cure Food Truck Rally raises funds for UCF Relay for Life

A group of University of Central Florida students organized a food truck event to help raise funds for Relay for Life. Uknighted for a Cure Food Truck Rally had several Orlando food trucks participate in the Relay Food Truck Rally event and portion of the proceeds will go to UCF’s Relay for Life 2012, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The event took place across the street from campus at the University Carillon United Methodist Church. A good location being across from the UCF Football stadium. The original event took place on March 20th and was success, leading into a second event on April 10th.

The Uknighted for a Cure team did a good job promoting the event on campus and around the surrounding community. Droolius.com was teamed up as a promotional partner and helped market the event via social media outlets. Students, faculty, and lunch goers from surrounding offices came out to eat and support this event. University Carillon UMC provided tables and a welcoming atmosphere for people to enjoy the great food truck food.

The following photos are a combination of both events and some of the food. I wish I could have eaten it ALL!

Food trucks serving were Yum Yum Truck, The Crooked Spoon, Melissa’s Chicken and Waffles, Korean BBQ Taco Box, Fork in the Road, and Treehouse Truck. Bistro Babes food truck came out to the first event as well.

During the second Uknighted for a Cure Food Truck Rally, the University Carillon United Methodist Church had a tent set up and were giving out bottles of water to the crowd. The day was hot and the water was appreciated.

Both events were successful in raising funds for Relay for Life, and hopefully they can do this again next year. This event with the food trucks serving to the local community, and partial proceeds supporting UCF Relay for Life, is really a win-win situation. It’s great to see people come together to eat and at the same time support a great cause. This event actually is meaningful to me because 1. It supports a greater cause, the American Cancer Society, 2. I’ve been working and promoting with the food trucks in the past year and it’s great to see their involvements in events like this, and 3. University Carillon UMC is the church I attended during my undergrad at UCF and the years living in East Orlando. So in the end, everything comes together for the greater cause and I’m proud that I contributed a part in helping out.

Big thanks to the team of UCF students and Uknighted for a Cure who worked hard in putting together the events, the food trucks for serving/supporting, and thank you to University Carillon UMC for hosting the event.
