Red Velvet Doughnuts – Donut King

Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like red and pink sweet treats. In this case, Red Velvet doughnuts and Strawberry frosted doughnuts from Donut King in Minneola, FL are very appropriate for today. Give that special someone an amazing doughnut and they will remember you forever.

Serving the Clermont area, Donut King makes these amazing treats, along with a number of other highly addicting doughnuts and flavors which makes this spot a local favorite. The hot glazed doughnut is also very popular, that many say rivals other doughnut chains like Krispy Kreme. There’s so many more doughnuts and food available at Donut King, but since its Valentines Day, we’ll focus on these red and pink beauties.

My personal favorite is the Strawberry Frosted doughnut with the pink frosting above. The red doughnuts are the red velvet doughnuts and there are some that are topped with cream cheese frosting with red velvet crumbs.

These doughnuts seem to be a new addition from what I’ve seen offered in the past. Maybe they had them all along, but I was surprised when they offered the red velvets with a cream cheese frosting. I’m glad the kind lady offered them this way. I actually like these better than red velvet cupcakes.

Red Velvet doughnut
This is the red velvet doughnut I have tried once before. A deep red color with good flavor and not too sweet.

Strawberry Frosted doughnut
This doughnut’s frosting has fresh strawberries mixed in and gives it a real strawberry flavor. I think this is why I like this doughnut the best. It does not taste like a typical artificial strawberry frosting that so many doughnut chains use. Also the doughnut itself is soft and doughy, that has the right texture and taste. It all combines into an amazing flavor and its hard to eat just one.

The Red Velvet doughnut topped with cream cheese frosting and red velvet crumbs is a doughnut packed with flavor. Similar taste to a cupcake, but I think it tastes much better. Maybe because doughnuts are fried and I just like the flavor better. It is still a balanced flavor and the frosting is not too sweet.

A look on the inside and the Red Velvet doughnut is still moist and not a dry cake doughnut. The outer part of the red velvet doughnut has a nice crisp to it and very enjoyable.

Donut King serves all quality doughnuts and is well known locally, as well as, by out-of-state visitors who pick up a few dozen doughnuts for their trip back up North. Highway 27 is highly traveled road and this doughnut shop is a must stop driving through the Minneola/Clermont area.

Donut King is located just north of Clermont and Highway 50, on Highway 27 in Minneola, FL. A little bit of a hike from Orlando, but well worth it. Its a “mom and pop” type of place and they have a drive thru window for convenience. They are open 24 hours and serve a vast menu including coffee, doughnuts from classic glazed to fruit filled, turn overs, fritters, beignets, and more. They even have mini burger sliders called Castle Burgers, which are similar to White Castle burgers up North and are pretty tasty here. I’ll have to go back again to take pictures and post some. Donut King provides some great snacks anytime of the day so make sure to check them out and buy a few dozen.
